Stress by definition is a mentally or emotionally disruptive or upsetting condition occurring in response to adverse external influences and capable of affecting physical health, usually characterized by increased heart rate, a rise in blood pressure, muscular tension, irritability, and depression. Many individuals will probably get “stressed” just trying to make sense of the definition. In truth (and broadly speaking), there is good stress (known as eustress) e.g. the stress caused by physical exercise or even by winning the lottery, and there is bad stress (known as distress) which is more in line with the above definition. In this fast paced, hectic, modern life we are dished up an almost indigestible amount of stress on a daily basis. As stated in other areas of the site, hypnosis is above all a heightened state of natural relaxation. This state can be used not only to alleviate the symptoms of stress but also investigate its cause and also provide us with the tools with which to deal with it.
